Today I drove to Kenai from Seward, another awestruck drive. Aside from the fact that most people are driving about 10-15 mph over the speed limit, there were very few places where one could stop to take photos. The waterfalls and the reflections in pure blue, still water, were overwhelming. I wanted to take more photos, but there were no safe stops. This is one of those times when one just has to commit to memory what beauty is right before you. If you want to see something awesomely fabulous, stop at Tern Lake. The marsh area with mountain backdrops was too much to bear. Emerald green trees, lavender mountain tops, and gold marsh reeds, and reflections in the water – took many photos here! What a lovely place for waterfowl to live and for migratory birds to rest on their way south and north. The trees are turning their golden fall colors, the Kenai River is turquoise blue, and up in the hills is the Kenai Princess Hotel Lodge. Just spectacular. I stayed at the Diamond M Ranch, a sizeable ranch with turkeys, emus, goats of almost every color, and even golden bunny rabbits eating grass on my campsite. This was a very quiet RV park to stay in; I loved all the animals.
