I really wanted to go back to see the Reflection Lake and pond at Toad River Lodge and RV Park. I was sure there would be wildlife around this lake and pond. I was right! I stopped in the restaurant for a BLT, and the waitress asked if I liked “Moose.” I responded, “Not to eat!!!” She laughingly said, “There is a female moose (cow) on Reflection Lake if you want to get a photo.” So, I raced to the outside patio and took about a hundred photos of this moose looking like she was on a spa day, completely submerged in Reflection Lake up to her neck. I learned from the tour guide in Jasper that moose love energy-rich plants like pondweed, water lilies, and algae. They consume up to 20 kg of vegetation per day, making these aquatic plants a significant part of their diet! I then walked to the pond and there was another male moose (bull) grazing next to the water. What a dynamic photo opportunity! I wish I could have camped out here for at least 1-2 nights to watch the moose. Apparently, the day before, tourists saw two female moose (cows) with calves! On the way back to Muncho Lake, there was a Caribou Crossing sign. Immediately after that sign I saw a very young caribou trying to cross the highway. She was so frightened, so I pulled over, stopped the van, and just sat quietly. I was hoping she would cross the highway safely before oncoming traffic arrived. She did!
