Today I walked along the entire shore. It is a very special place to stay for a few days. The Silver Sea cruise ship was in port. Quite a few people fishing for salmon right at the junction where the salmon were spawning in the stream just before entering Resurrection Bay. I didn’t think this was fair for the salmon, but then I am not in charge! It was so interesting to watch the salmon as they were spawning. It is so sad that they die after releasing their eggs. I did not know they always return to the stream where they are born to spawn and then they die! Kids were in the water trying to catch the salmon with their bare hands because there were so many salmon there. I visited the Seward Mariners’ Memorial honoring all seafaring captains and others who lost their lives in or near Resurrection Bay. A memorable monument. The earliest date I saw on the memorial was 1917 for two sailors who lost their lives when their boat capsized in Resurrection Bay. The turquoise waters in the huge marina were amazing. This is a deep water seaport that never freezes, so the fishing is key as a way of living. The boats were fun to see floating on the turquoise waters. A sign noted they fished for 36 different species of fish here.
